The activity's goal is the definition of all organizational and technical measures for software maintenance and modification (SWMM) during operation. To do so the strategy for the SWMM must be decided on if, and if yes, which parts of SWMM are to be allocated to external instances.

If necessary, the SWMM Concept can be updated in parallel to further developments when technical decisions have an impact on the contents of the SWMM Concept.

The following must be taken into consideration with regard to the SWMM Concept:

the required SWMM organization in its structure by considering the specified strategy,

the required personnel resources (e. g. temporarily and permanently required capacities, required know-how),

the allocation of competence and responsibilities within the SWMM organization,

the process description for the realization of the SWMM (e. g. application for, analysis of and classification of modifications, review and migration of modifications, configuration management),

the SWMM of Off-the-shelf-product,

the technical installations required for the SWMM (e. g. development and assessment environments).

Recommendation

The generation of the SWMM in the project should take place as early as possible so the resulting requirements with regard to development or procurement can be taken into consideration in time.
