    Handling

    In this activity, it is investigated in as far the feasibility of the planned reverse engineering measure will be economically efficient. Since reverse engineering predominantly aims at the improvement of software maintainability, the economic efficiency is given when the total cost for reverse engineering measures and the future cost for maintenance and modification of the updated software are less than the costs that presently accrue for maintenance and modification of the existing software. For this comparison it is necessary to select an appropriate cost and efficiency method as well as appropriate software measures.

    The "Recommendations for the Realization of Economic Efficiency Considerations in connection with the use of IT in Federal Administrations" may be used as a help (published by KBSt, ISSN 01 79-72 63).
