* Description of Requirements for Technical Application Environment
This activity is used to specify the requirements for the application environment and for other external interfaces of the SW Unit/HW Unit during operation.The requirements for the application environment determine the embedding of the SW Unit/HW Unit, i. e. the cooperation of software and hardware with external elements during operation. The complex environment interfaces between parallel and asynchronous objects have to be described when in operation. In this connection, objects might be SW Units/HW Units in the same System, users of the System or devices of other systems. It is of particular importance to define the required time behavior.
* Definition of Requirements for the User Interface
The man-machine interface is a particular form of the external interface of SW Units. This is where the requirements for services to be made available and for information to be exchanged, for screen layout, syntax and semantics of the individual masks, allocation of keys, print formats, and listing layouts have to be specified. The requirements must be agreed with those in charge of the development of process descriptions and manuals. The mutual influence of man-machine interface designs and manual and automated processes must be taken into consideration.* Definition of Requirements for the HW Interfaces
The requirements for the interfaces with regard to electrical, optical, mechanical and possibly also other characteristics have to be specified for HW Units. The interface to HW Units may also include a HW user interface (buttons, switches, keyboards, etc.). Time response must be observed (e. g. data transmission rates, response times, cycle times, bus widths, and data volumes).

(4) Method DIAL is to be applied for dialogue functions with screen masks.
