    Handling

    A Configuration Identification Document (CID) is created; depending on the planned product this is either a System CID, a HW CID, or a SW CID. This activity is realized once per CID.

    The information about the identification and the integration into the System are entered (initialization of the CID), and all information already known at this time about items and documents of the configuration has to be entered.

    The information about the identification also includes configuration attributes, information about the configuration of the applied SD, like version of the compiler used, and information about off-the-shelf-products used.

    Explanation

    Separate CID's are required at both levels ("System" and "Software" or "Hardware"), just as for the architecture documents (System, HW and SW Architecture). Project-specific particularities, like the delivery of individual or configured software or hardware components as one delivery unit, may require further CID levels because every delivery unit must be allocated a separate CID. Definition and number of CID's in the project, and therefore the interpretation of a "configuration unit" as well, depend on these project decisions, i. e. it is the responsibility of the configuration management to define further CID's and thus further configuration units, or not.
