2 Brief Characteristic of the Method

• the number of residual errors
• the mean time to detect the next error
• the error detection rate.

The model is based on the following assumptions:

• Errors occur by accident.
• The error detection rate in the defined time intervals is constant.
• Errors are independent of each other.
• No new errors are generated.
• Errors are corrected after they have been detected.

In this model it is assumed that the error detection rate is proportional to the number of residual errors and the time passed since the detection of the preceding error.
