2 Brief Characteristic of the Method

• the number of residual errors
• the mean time to detect the next error
• the error detection rate.

The model is based on the following assumptions:

• Errors occur by accident.
• The error detection rate in the defined time intervals is constant.
• Errors are independent of each other.
• No new errors are generated.
• Errors are corrected after they have been detected.

The following data must be available:

• Number of errors during operating times.
• Application time between two subsequent errors.

In this model it is assumed that the error detection rate is proportional to the number of residual errors. In this model, the number of residual errors decreases exponentially.
