Definition/
Use Adjudged or hypothesized cause of an error. Error cause which is intended to be avoided or tolerated. Consequence for a system of the failure of another system which has interacted or is interacting with the considered system. The nature of faults can be accidental or intentional. The origin of faults may be decomposed into Phenomenological (physical or human-made faults), System boundaries (internal or external faults) and the phase of creation with respect to system life (design, operational faults). The temporal persistence of faults can be distincted into permanent and temporary faults.
