Synonym: Configuration Unit
A configuration item is subject to activities of the Configuration Management (CM), with separable characteristics that can be defined at a certain time (quality and functionality) and that may be selected on the lowest level, if possible, by taking into consideration certain factors to meet the management requirements during the development/application.
Note: Examples of such factors are security requirements, cost intensity, frequency of changes, frequency of errors, commercial availability.
